(Diemelsee-Flechtdorf, 31 May 2007). Weidemann GmbH, a subsidiary of Wacker Construction Equipment AG, plans to continue its expansion course. So, to cover the growing demand for small and medium-sized wheel loaders for agricultural and construction applications, central Europe’s leading manufacturer of Hoftrac, wheel loaders and teleloaders is building new premises on some 50,000 square metres of land in Korbach, a small town in the middle of Germany. The plant is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2007.
Efficient production will cut delivery times
“The construction work is on schedule. We are confident that our new production plant will be complete this year”, emphasises Bernd Apfelbeck, Managing Director of Weidemann GmbH. The assembly hall and paint shop are now finished. The commissioning of the plant in early 2008 will see a significant capacity increase. As Apfelbeck explains, “A platform strategy in the new premises will allow efficient manufacture of both our agricultural products, as well as Wacker’s wheel loaders for the construction industry”. This will, in turn, cut delivery times for high-demand models. The current production site in Diemelsee-Flechtdorf will continue to be used for administration and product development.
Growing demand in Western and Eastern Europe
“We are seeing an increasing demand for a low, narrow design of wheel loader and flexible Hoftrac both in existing markets in Germany and Western Europe, and also in the large stock-breeding operations in Eastern Europe”, says Apfelbeck. In western Europe, the company is benefiting in particular from the profitability-increasing measures on the yards. This is in contrast to Eastern Europe, where the focus is very much on a complete modernisation of the machine park. Both trends are inducing agriculturalists to make significantly higher investments. |
