Crocodile buckets are optional attachments for wheel loaders, front-end loaders and tractors. As a speciality, the sharp teeth on the bottom and top jaws mesh like the teeth in a crocodile jaw. The bucket is marketed in a range of different sizes and designs, with widths ranging from 1.4m to 1.8m. The number of tines per bucket varies, too. For example, some 1.4m wide buckets have six top tines and seven tines at the base, whereas 1.8m buckets have more than eight top tines and more than nine base tines. Typically, crocodile buckets have one extra tine on the bottom jaw. The top tines are vertical and usually slightly curved, whereas the bottom tines protrude horizontally from the base.
The crocodile bucket is typically used in agriculture and sometimes in landscaping and municipal applications. Agricultural applications include handling fodder, bedding as well as removing grass or maize silage from the clamp and filling the mixer feeder. The bucket holds the silage securely so no material is lost on its way to the mixer. Some farmers also use the implement for muck disposal and it is particularly suitable for handling horse manure that mixed with straw.
