Bale spikes fit front-end loaders, wheel loaders and tractors and are used to handle large bales of hay or straw. The spikes push into the bale at or beneath its mid-line, lift and take it to the place of storage or feeding. Here, the spike lowers the bale slowly to the ground and the machine reverses slowly, carefully withdrawing the spikes from the bale.
The square bale spike is exclusively used in agriculture, being an indispensible implement at riding farms and equine retirement farms, where square bales are used for bedding and feeding.
Bale spikes are available in three different versions, differing by number and length of the spikes. Most spikes have a strong frame with four spikes although two spikes are available, too. Along with the traditional spikes there are heavy-duty versions that can lift up two five tonnes. The implement may also feature hydraulic push-off systems, while others feature two spikes at the bottom and one heavy-duty spike in the middle that stabilizes the bale.
